Rebound Relationships – Can They Work?

by Dating Spree on October 6, 2011

Breaking up is can be a very painful experience for many people, especially if you are the one being dumped. You can be overwhelmed with feelings of extreme loneliness and sadness. In order to overcome these feelings, many people seek out a rebound love. This could be someone new whom you begin dating and immediately begin to have romantic feelings for. Signs of a rebound relationship can include:

  • Immediately becoming attached to someone
  • Feelings of wanting to develop a long-term relationship (too soon after getting out of one)
  • Wanting to spend every waking moment with someone new you’ve met

Rebound Dating

Many people who have just got out of a relationship turn to rebound dating in order to help them forget about the person in their previous relationship. This is also what is referred to as transitional relationships. They are often used to occupy one’s time and mind in order to mask the feelings of loneliness that are felt after a break-up.

Because these types of relationships are sought for purely selfish reasons, it is not uncommon for people to believe that rebound relationships don’t work. However, there are some situations in which rebound relationships can have success. This can happen when both people involved are both on the rebound, yet actually have some type of chemistry.

Rebound love can exist if the two people involved realize the background story before getting in too deep. When either person isn’t up front about their break-up, that is when problems can develop and another relationship is ruined.

Most people may tell you that rebound relationships are a bad idea. However, it is human nature to want to seek companionship. If you are up front and honest about your previous relationship, then you may just find your soulmate on the rebound.
